I got my first 3000 in February of 1996.

I had purchased the Uniden SC-150B, but decided to send it back and exchange it for the more robust 3000. I bought both units from a mail order company in NJ called Racing Electronics, Inc. (1-800-272-7111).

When the first 3000 arrived, I immediately plugged it in and turned it on.

Traffic on some of my normal channels seemed slow, so I turned on my Pro-2023 and let them run side-by-side. Much to my chagrin, the Pro-2023 outperformed the 3000!!

After posting an article asking for help to rec.radio.rcanner, the consensus was I had gotten a lemon scanner.

I immediately called the mail order company and was pleasantly surprised when they promptly issued a Return Authorization (with no "did you try this..." or "did you try that..."). Several days later I received my replacement 3000, which performed flawlessly.

HERE'S THE LESSON: test your scanners!! If I had not caught this problem early, I would have been in a difficult situation later on.
